Currently I live in an apartment which has been in my family since 1935. My great-grandmother lived in this apartment, my grandfather was raised in this apartment, my father and his siblings were raised in the same apartment. I have called this place my home for the past 3 years. The current road project as of September 2023 shows that my home and the home of 3 generations before me has to be torn down to allow expansion of the drainage around the highway. As it currently stands the Alaska Department of Transportation has given us no definite direction on what will happen to my home.
Suggestions have been made that the building will lose access to its septic system-or worse-completely be torn down. The building I live in and the business that owns it was created in the vision of my grandfather who wanted a place for all members of our family to come home to.
This oasis has been a home and visited by many family members over the ears and I wish it could continue to do so.
